My son’s school just recently had a Claire’s Gourmet Fund-raiser. Well, of course I must be supportive. So I order the carrot cake. And of course I know that all of the selections are fattening, but somehow I convince myself that the carrot cake must be the lesser of the evils; after all, it has s a vegetable in its name. Last night, my husband and I decided to defrost the cake and give it a try. Very, very good! So being the fitness people that we are, we look at the bottom of the box for the nutritional information and low and behold, one slice of carrot cake [which, incidentally, is 1/12 of the cake] is a whopping 500 calories. The cake is topped with cream cheese and laced with nuts. Yikes! Who knew? I can see how easy it is for most Americans to be clueless about their daily calorie consumption. We discussed whether or not to throw the entire cake in the trash. It’s still in the fridge.

DON’T DO IT!!! Why throw away a delicious carrot before it’s had an opportunity to complete its mission. It’s not the carrots fault that someone mixed it up with all those scrum-dilly-icious, I mean unhealthy ingredients. That poor beta carotene shouldn’t be wasted.
You’re right I can see how easy it is to justify what I call a ‘simple pleasure’. Almost like that healthy oatmeal and raisin cookie.

Support the children that’s what you are supposed to do. Donate the rest to charity.
