RULE #3:  You have to treat the weekends like weekdays.  Weekends are notorious for setting us back.  Our exercise is off, our eating is off, it’s just the perfect environment for a set-back.  So, until you reach your goals, you gotta get up and fix your first meal at a decent time and get your workout in early before the day gets going.  Eat breakfast around the same time that you would if you were going to work or getting the kids off to school.  If you don’t do that, you’ll turn around and 10am will come and you’ve missed a meal.  Not good.  Get up early and work out before everyone stirs.  Hey, you can always go back to sleep later — it’s the weekend.

Yesterday I ended up eating not enough calories.  RULE #2:  You need to eat to lose.  You want to increase your metabolism and make sure you don’t rob your body of necessary muscle.  I am shooting for about 1700 on workout days and 1500-1600 on non-workout days.

Well, this is officially day one, again, on my road to competition.  I am at the hairdresser and it looks like it is going to be a long wait.  I didn’t anticipate that ,and therefore I have no food.
RULE #1:  Never leave home without your next meal, or two.  Ladies, you must plan your menu for the day before the day begins.  I tell people this all the time, and look at me, I didn’t take the time to plan.   But that’s ok.  It’s still going to be a good day!

I have decided that I am going to compete again this coming April.  I want to show women that even after two children, and even after 40, you can have a better body than you did in your twenties.  I gained more weight than I anticipated during this last pregnancy.  I had fat pockets that I’ve never seen before including thigh cellulite.

Going thru that made me ever so determined to encourage pregnant women to definitely be more proactive with their exercise regimen throughout the entirety of their pregnancy.  As a health professional, I am somewhat embarrassed at the fact that I let myself get really lazy during this last pregnancy.  Having a baby at 41 is no excuse.   For those of you who have found yourselves in the same boat, there is still hope.   Stay tuned.
